2023`s Bukit Lawang Trust Conservation Festival was held on November the 2nd at the Bukit Lawang Trust Education Center itself.

We got invited and happily paid this lovely celebration a visit.

It was not only another Conservation Festival with great activities, games, music and food but also the 20th anniversary of this amazing charity ( Happy Birthday from Team Bukit Lawang-Jungle Trekking ) and a special day to remember the devasting flood which hit this community back in 2003 ( the reason why the Bukit Lawang Trust was founded ; the flood destroyed much of Bukit Lawang and killed more than 240 people, leaving approximately 1400 people without a home.). The festival aims to raise awareness for the magnificent Leuser Ecosystem and its conservation and protection. The festival wishes to inspire the local community to care about conservation and to begin to see the potential of Bukit Lawang as an eco-tourism destination,to educate the local community about protecting the rainforest & orangutans and to bring together NGOs working together in and around Bukit Lawang.
